— Do NOT purchase generic brand lamps such as LTI, APO or third-party manufacturers such as OSRAM.
These lamps were NOT engineered with and for your TV…only your Philips lamp has been engineered to work flawlessly and output the best possible color. Above that, it just doesn’t make sense to choose an aftermarket lamp for a $5-$10 difference (and in many cases they are more expensive!!). Be a smart consumer and do your research! Discount-Merchant.com promises to be the low price leader in all Projection TV Lamps they carry…if this is not true, let us know and we’ll fix it!
Tools Required: Standard Philips or Flathead screwdriver, Pair of Pliers, A new lamp.
Time Required: About 15 minutes.
Abstract: This guide is being published to show how easy it is to replace your original Sony XL-5100 Lamp.
NOTE: We recommend you to use latex gloves when handling the new bulb, to avoid any dirt or oil. Our hands are naturally oily…The oil residue from our hands can cause premature failure of the lamp if the front side of the lamp is not wiped down after the installation. It doesn’t hurt to do a final wipe with a clean, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth before reinstalling your lamp…

1.- Let’s start by removing the two screws (one on each side) that hold the security metal extensions to the casing. |
2.-And between the cables you’ll find the screw that holds both back casing and lamp base. |
3.-Now pull the base out from the rest of the casing. |
4.- This is what the back of the casing looks like once the lamp base is removed. |
5.- And here is he base of the lamp once it’s free.
6.- Take your pair of pliers and start removing the nut by turning it carefully. |
7.-From the side, take out the screw holding the bulb to the connector. |
8.-Inside the lamp base you’ll find two metallic clips that secure the bulb to the base, unscrew them both to remove the old lamp. |
9.- Ready your new bulb, and prepare to install it the same way you took out the old one. |
A.- First reinstall the long cable on the top terminal of the new bulb, with your pair of pliers. |
B.-Second, insert the small screw on the side to completely secure the cables. |
C.-The new lamp must be inserted inside the base and the connectors place in its respective place. |
D.-Now to place the metal clips back, you must make sure that the new lamps dosent move. |
E.- Take the back casing and connect it to the front lamp base, make sure it makes a click, that will mean its locked in. |
F.-Turn the housing around and install the screw between the plastic covered cables. |
G.- Place the last two screws on the security metal extensions that will conjoin both of the casing parts. |
H.-And now you’re finished. XL-5100.
IMPORTANT: After installing the replacement bulb, you should wipe it with a clean cloth to avoid any dirt or oil. Our hands are naturally oily…this could reduce considerably the life span of the new lamp.
