**SPECIAL NOTE** Samsung went through various revisions of this part and here is a breif explanation of what they did:

Samsung original started out with the first version of this Lamp Enclosure using a Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp calling it the BP96-00608A for the very first generation HLP Series DLP TVs. Pictures shown here:

The next production run of Samsung DLP TVs were badged as "HLR Series DLP TVs." These enclosures carried the same exact bulb as the first generation HLP Series DLP TVs which also carried a Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp but this time they decided to change the Lamp Enclosure model number to BP96-00826A while discontinuing the BP96-00608A model Enclosure because they were essentially the same part. Pictures shown here:

Soon after, a new BP96-00826A lamp enclosure was released. Why? Philips introduced a more reliable lamp and Samsung incorporated this lamp while in the production of the HLR Series DLP TVs. At this time, Samsung discontinued use the the Big Philips Lamp and opted to produce everything with the newer, smaller form factor. It assumed that the old lamp (Philips 100/120W 1.0 e23) was discontinued for reliability issues. Remember UHP Technology was only introduced by Philips in 1995...and the design on the e23 is a few years outdated.

What was it replaced with? A new form factor, the e22 was released in two flavors: a 100/120W 1.0 and the 120/132W 1.0. These are both ventalated lamps which seem to run cooler and hence, are more reliable. There were only a few Samsung enclosures that featured the 100/120W lamp, while most take advantage of the 120/132W lamp. As long as your ballast is capble of pumping out 120W, your TV can take advantage of the 120/132W lamp!

Ok, well...how do i know if I have a compatible ballst? Two things you need to consider. As long as you do not have the oddball enclosure type (ah...we're referring to the BP96-0023A which features a OSRAM 1.3 lamp you're ok!). Second thing to consider: as long as your original enclosure is NOT the following, you are ok! BP96-00224A, BP96-00224B, BP96-00224C, BP96-00224D. A brief explaination of each is below:

BP96-00224A(T)- The first ever production run of consumer Samsung DLP TVs featured a Toshiba lamp, hence, the T after the enclosure part number. This was a 100W lamp, matched with a 100W ballast.
BP96-00224B(O)-The 2nd production run used an Osram lamp, this was also a 100W lamp and ballast
BP96-00224C(P)-Yes, yes, you are catching on...the P stands for Philips and this was....also 100W lamp and ballast
BP96-00224D(O)-Osram again...100W again...= no go for the new 132W lamps

Much of this has been documented on other pages on this site, please take a look for a more complete history. All in all, if you're confused, it's not your fault -- it's Samsung's!

Getting back to the story of the BP96-00608A and BP96-00826A

The small 100/120W was quickly replaced with the small 120/132W lamp and is currently used in ALL current model Samsung lamp based DLP TVs (late model HLS and HLT TVs). Production on the HLS with the new lamp started in 2005.

Due to the discontinuation of the Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp, Samsung decided to re-design their BP96-00826A Enclosure to fit the newely designed Small Philips Vented Lamp while maintaining the part number of BP96-00826A. Pictures shown here:

Since most first generation Samsung DLP TV customers' Television sets came with a Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp, FixYourDLP.com has created a pantented adapter that will allow the new Small Philips Vented Lamp to fit in any enslosure that originally carried the Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp ... This allows the first generation Samsung HLP and HLR Series owners to replace their old Big 100W/120W Philips Brand Lamp with the new Small Philips Vented Lamp which will allow the first generation Samsung TV owners to enjoy the brighter and more reliable Small Philips Vented Lamp. As we all know, reliability is the key factor in Television lamps.

Philips Lighting, Inc. are the sole inventors and innovators of UHP Lamp Technology. OSRAM, LTI, and Other 3rd Party manufacturers are duplicators of Philips Lighting, Inc.'s technology. Philips Lighting has manufacturing plants in Belgium and China for their UHP Lamps and are the leader in QUALITY and RELIABLITY.

UHP Lamps are used in all DLP and LCD Projection TVs and Projectors until 2007 - The LED Based Samsung DLP TVs were released, however, UHP Lamp based DLP TVs by Samsung and all other manufacturers are still manufacturing UPD Lamp based Televisions and Projector

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING PHILIPS BRAND LAMPS IN YOUR TV SET AS DESIGNED BY YOUR TELEVISION MANUFACTURER.

NORMAL DISCLAIMER:
— Do NOT purchase generic brand lamps such as LTI, APO or third-party manufacturers such as OSRAM. These lamps were NOT engineered with and for your TV…only your Philips lamp has been engineered to work flawlessly and output the best possible color. Above that, it just doesn’t make sense to choose an aftermarket lamp for a $5-$10 difference (and in many cases they are more expensive!!). Be a smart consumer and do your research! Discount-Merchant.com promises to be the low price leader in all Projection TV Lamps they carry…if this is not true, let us know and we’ll fix it!

Necessities:

1. Standard Philips & Flathead screwdrivers
2. Pair of Pliers
3. A new Philips Lamp
4. 15 minutes of your time

IMPORTANT: The bulb should be handled with a clean cloth at all times to avoid any dirt or oil. Our hands are naturally oily…this is a no-no for these lamps. It doesn’t hurt to do a final wipe with a clean, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth before reinstalling your lamp…

Sometimes it is very hard to tell the difference between a bad lamp and a good lamp. The filament in most cases will not show signs of wear or enflamation... Even though the lamp may "look good" it's looks can be deceiving!

***Technicians: Don't bother checking for CONTINUITY becuase ALL UHP LAMPS WILL FAIL CONTINUITY TESTS as the lamps have a "firing gap" in the filament (similar to a car's spark plug).

Now it’s re-assembly time! Let’s put in the new PHILIPS Lamp and screw it into the enclosure!

Now let's connect the terminals back on to the lamp and close up the enclosure!

NOTE: Be careful when screwing-in the side connector on to your new lamp. It’s best to hand torque as this terminal is very sensitive and might break with a lot of torque.
